We are excited to help co-ordinate Jersey’s first ever Refugee Week from 19th-25 June organised by local charity, Jersey Cares Refugee Aid Group. This events will take place in Jersey for the first time from the 19th to the 25th of June. During the week there will be a wide variety of activities organised, ranging from poetry, music and film evenings to art exhibitions and drama performances in schools across the island. Artists and performers from the UK and Europe will contribute to this unique week of culture and awareness raising.
To help support the publicity and activities during the week we have launched an appeal for extra funding to facilitate Refugee Week in Jersey. Some of these funds will be spent on organisation of the week and some of it will benefit a small cultural initiative in which former refugees share their stories through drama, art and dance. They performed the theatre show of HOME with local company Love Theatre, on two sell-out evenings at the Arts Centre in January and February this year.
Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events and activities that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK and promotes better understanding of why people seek sanctuary.
We would be very grateful of any donations either by way of funds or time volunteering during the week. We will be creating a programme with full event to be distributed at the ‘Made with Love’ Art Exhibition on Monday 5th June at an exclusive preview evening from 5.30 to 7.00 pm at Berni Gallery, Jersey Arts Centre.
